Software, the manner in which it is developed and deployed, and the role that it plays in business and society, has changed radically in the 43 years since Winston Royce was first credited with the now ubiquitous ‘waterfall’ method.

Businesses and governments are increasingly adopting “agile” approaches to software delivery.  Yet many of the common approaches to contracting for, and managing, the legal, commercial and technological risks with software delivery are still reflective of the increasingly outdated ‘waterfall’ world.

In this session we explore the changes in the technological, economic and business landscapes that have led to the adoption of more ‘agile’ approaches, how they differ to the more traditional approaches, the key advantages and risks of agile approaches, and how best to exploit and manage them through effective deal structuring and contract documentation
