Gordon Hughes is a partner in the intellectual property, competition and technology group of Ashurst Australia, based in its Melbourne office. Gordon practises in the area of information technology law, data protection law, electronic commerce, privacy and intellectual property.
He is the co-author of two texts on privacy law, and is an update editor of Robert Dean's Trade Secrets and Privacy. He is also co-author of the update service Computer Contracts: Principles and Precedents.
Dr Hughes has served on various Federal and State government privacy advisory bodies. He is also an Adjunct Professor at RMIT University, and a part time member of the Commonwealth Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Gordon is the chair of the International Law Section of the Law Council of Australia. He has previously served as president of the Law Council, as well as president of the Law Institute of Victoria, Lawasia and the Victorian Society for Computers and the Law. In 2010, he was elected a fellow of the Australian Academy of Law.
